Shortwave in plain English

It is radio built to travel.

Most radio stays near the transmitter. Shortwave uses a different part of the radio spectrum and a remarkable natural path through the sky.

This range of radio frequencies is commonly called shortwave, or high frequency. These signals can travel much farther than ordinary local AM or FM broadcasts.

Why it still matters

Shortwave reaches differently.

It does not replace the internet station. It gives UCN another path to listeners when ordinary digital paths are unavailable, unreliable, or simply out of reach.

A receiver and antenna are enough. There is no account to create, app to install, or data plan to maintain.

How to hear the broadcast.

You do not need a large antenna or an expensive radio to begin. Start simple and experiment.

Step 1

Use a shortwave receiver

Look for a radio marked SW, shortwave, or HF that covers the listed frequency.

Step 2

Extend the antenna

Place the radio near a window, extend its antenna, and move away from noisy electronics.

Step 3

Tune at the listed time

Enter the frequency and listen a few minutes before and after the scheduled start.
